A fire in Wonowon claimed five cabins and a detached residence on Tuesday morning.

The Fort St. John RCMP detachment was called to the Nomadic Work Camp located at Mile 102 of the Alaska Highway.

When the police arrived at the scene, four cabins were destroyed by the fire, and a fifth cabin along with a detached residence was engulfed in flames.

Constable Jessica Veysey says the fire is still under investigation.

No one was staying at the camp at the time of the fire.

The Fort St. John Fire department did not attend the fire, as it was located outside the fire suppression area. After three hours of burning, the fire managed to extinguish itself.
