Fort St. John Fire Crews were called to the scene of a house fire at 8916 84a street Thursday evening.
Crews were called shortly after 5pm, after the fire started in the kitchen area in the rear of the house. Fire Chief Fred Burrows believes the fire broke through a window and spread to exterior of the home. One child was inside the home when the fire started and was taken to hospital by ambulance to be checked out for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but the fire department hopes to discover the cause in the coming days. Early damage estimates range around $50,000.
