The Fort St. John Fire Department is reminding the public that it’s extremely dry in the community.

Friday night alone the Department responded to 9 fire calls and 7 of those were grass fires. In one case Friday an individual was burning grass on his property and thought the fire was out, when in fact the fire had actually spread to another part of his property.

Saturday morning crews were also called to a grass fire on the 244 road north of Fort St. John. Fire Chief Fred Burrows says some of the fires have been caused by carelessness. The Fort St. John Fire Department is not the only organization saying this area is extremely dry, the Prince George Fire Centre has also warned area residents about current conditions.

The PG Fire Centre has already had 15 forest fire calls this year and all of them have been caused by humans.
