Bear Mountain might get another wind farm

There’s another company looking to tap into the wind power of Bear Mountain near Dawson Creek.

At the Peace River Regional District meeting on Thursday, directors voted to authorize the company’s application to proceed to the Agricultural Land Commission. However, they said the project must undergo an environmental review process before the project gets support from the District.

The proposed site covers three sections of land which are currently cleared or treed.

Loiselle says the economy is slow, but the company hopes to get two or three towers set up in the area to gather data. He hopes those sample towers will go up in June.

The project is in its primary stages, and has a few reviews and studies it must undergo in order to continue into the following stages.

Loiselle says the company will study animal patterns to dictate the position of the towers.

He says he doesn’t expect any resistance from the community on the project.
