A Fort St. John man flying a homemade aircraft crashed on a northern California highway this week and, suffered serious injuries.

The pilot, identified as 53 year old, Sungkwon Kim, was flying the homebuilt plane, along the Interstate-5, when it hit a tree branch and crashed.

California Highway Patrol officers found him Tuesday trapped inside his airplane, suffering from major head and back injuries.

He was taken to a hospital and, his son has confirmed the injuries are not life threatening. Light wind and snow were reported at the time of the incident, but it’s not known if weather was a crash factor.
