Over 1.6 million dollars in federal and provincial funding will go towards the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality to help build local infrastructure and trails.
Senator Richard Neufeld says the federal and provincial funding will help Fort Nelson build important infrastructure projects that both encourage physical activity and enhance water system operations.
The municipality will receive $400,000 in ‘Towns for Tomorrow’ funding. ‘Towns for Tomorrow’ is a program set up to help smaller communities with infrastructure spending.
The funding will invest in upgrades to its Raw Water Supply Energy Efficiency Project. It will improve energy efficiency and reliability of the existing system. It will also receive around just over $602,000 in LocalMotion funding for the first phase of the Fort Nelson Community Trail Master Plan Project, and just over $617,000 for the first installment of the Small Community and Regional District Grant.
Mayor Bill Streeper is pleased with the results. He says he is confident that it will be money well-spent as it helps create more jobs, more efficiency and more opportunities for workers and their families.
The Towns for Tomorrow and LocalMotion projects are part of an overall $14-billion capital infrastructure program supported by the Province that will create up to 88,000 jobs and help build public infrastructure in every region of B.C.
