PeeWee AA Flyers end season with championship win

The Fort St John Flyers Pee Wee AA’s closed out their season on the weekend by taking the All Peace League B Banner in a 2 game total goals series against the Grande Prairie Pee Wee A’s. After losing a close game on Saturday, the Flyers came back with a convincing win on Sunday in Grande Prairie to take the series and end their season with the traditional on-ice celebration and a league banner to show for their efforts.
Game 1: Grande Prairie 6 Fort St John 5
In a hard fought game at the Clearview Arena, Grande Prairie scored with a minute left in the game to take the win. The Flyers held the lead after the first and second periods but, Grande Prairie came out with a determined effort in the third and got their first lead of the game late in the period during a 2 man advantage. Fort St John managed to tie it with 3 minutes left and had some good chances to regain the lead before Grande Prairie scored the late marker for the win. Scoring for the Flyers were Lien Miller-Jeannotte (2 goals, 1 assist), Thomas Webster (3 assists), Brayden Hickey (1 goal, 1 assist), Jake Gardner (1 goal, 1 assist), Josh Lucas (1 goal), Darin O’Hanley (1 assist) and Tory Mitchell (1 assist). Fort St John players of the game were Brayden Hickey at forward and Kane Shallow on defense.
Game 2: Fort St John 6 Grande Prairie 1
The Flyers closed out the series and their season with one of their best all around games of the year. Fort St John took charge of the game early in the first period and worked hard at both ends of the ice to prevent Grande Prairie from getting back in the game. The Flyers defense stood tall and each time Grande Prairie managed a good scoring chance, goaltender Garet Whitford was there to shut the door. Scoring for the Flyers were Brittany Bakstad (2 goals), Josh Lucas (1 goal, 1 assist), Jake Gardner (1 goal, 1 assist), Ryan Good (2 assists), Kane Shallow (1 goal), Thomas Webster (1 goal), Aiden June (1 assist) and Tory Mitchell (1 assist). Fort St John players of the game were Jake Gardner and Josh Lucas at forward and Aiden June and Brittany Bakstad on defense.
