OGC implements Noise Control Guidelines

The Oil and Gas Commission has implemented Noise Control Guidelines.

The guidelines suggest noise control measures and limits for all operations, production facilities and gas processing plants under the Commission’s jurisdiction.

Steve Simon leader of the Corporate Affairs Division at the OGC says the noise levels shouldn’t be any louder than a normal living room. [asset|aid=1117|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=972d53a89590522356e4f3a93ba30959-Steve – 1_1_Pub.mp3]

The BC Noise Control Best Practices Guideline is the first edition in BC and provides interim requirements until formal regulation is in place. The OGC will target production facilities and gas processing plants, and, more specifically, compressor, process cooler, pump and electrical generator installations. Steve says that the OGC will require each facility to follow these rules. [asset|aid=1118|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=972d53a89590522356e4f3a93ba30959-Steve -2_1_Pub.mp3]

The OGC also states that Operators should communicate existing noise levels to any landowners, residents or developers proposing dwellings near a facility.
