Historic Agreement between Ministry and Northeast First Nations

The Ministry of Children and Family Development has signed a historic agreement with First Nations in Northeastern BC.

The agreement will see First Nations in Northeastern BC create their own child welfare jurisdiction and services. Tribal Chief Liz Logan says approxiamtely 70% of the children who are living outside of their biological parents’ homes are of aboriginal ancestry.

The Nenan Dane_Zaa Deh Zona Children and Family Services group will now create a community based model that will respect and empower their traditional laws, culture, values and beliefs.

The Nenan name translated means "All of us people working together for our children and families." Nenan has been working since 2001 to establish this new agreement.  For more on this organization visit www.nenan.org
