Huskies lose 4-3 in overtime to the Peace River Navigators

Both teams wanted a win in this key game, but it was the Huskies who took control early, getting several great scoring chances over the first 40 minutes, and forcing the majority of the play inside the Navigators’ zone.  But, the goals were hard the come by, with the pups capitalizing only once in the first, scored by Cam MacKinnon.

Early in the second, the Huskies would strike again, with Midget call-up Robbie Sidhu taking a dump-out from goaltender Zack Blain, streaking into the Navs zone 3-on-2, and feeding Cody Kalb for a tap in goal.

But, while Fort St. John would continue to carry the play for most of the second, the Navs would strike twice right at the end of the middle frame.  First, Mitch Kohut banged home a Kyle Richardson rebound, for a powerplay goal, to get Peace River on the board.  Then, 36 seconds later, and with just 8 seconds remaining in the second, Payden Wongstedt fell, giving Gerry Young a breakaway.  Young fired a snap-shot past Blain, to tie the game 2-2.

Early in the third, Fort St. John would retake the lead, when Robbie Sidhu spun and fired from the high-slot, through traffic, and past Bretton Stewart.  But, in an echo of their game two collapse, the pups would let Peace River back in the game.  It was Kyle Richardson who tied it, when he walked out from behind the net and roofed a backhander over Zack Blain, to tie the game 3-3.

The rest of the period would solve nothing, and the officials would determine the ice was in good enough condition to continue play, so the game went to a ten minute overtime period.

After a couple of chances both ways, and with just 15 seconds remaining in the extra frame, the Huskies were unable to clear their zone, and a boucing point shot found its way to Kyle Richardson who was all alone at the side of the net.  He made no mistake, firing the puck over a desperate Zack Blain, to give the home team a huge game three win.
