Peace Region gets two major road upgrades

Peace Region will be getting two major road upgrades this summer.

The first project will cover 44 km of Highway 77 between Highway 97 and Fort Nelson River Pit.

The second will be the Upper Halfway Road, where the Iron Bridge will be demolished and replaced. The bridge will be able to handle over 85 tonnes.

Construction is expected to be complete by September of this year. Work will be done from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Highway 77. There will also be maximum delays of 20 minutes, with posted speed reductions, while users of the Upper Halfway Road will be provided with a detour bridge directly downstream of the current bridge.

South-Peace MLA Blair Lekstrom says the major construction aims to increase accessibility to the north.
