Although the Flyers ended last night’s game with a 2-2 tie, they needed to win by three points in order to take first place. The first game on Tuesday ended 4-2 in favor of the Dawson Creek Canucks and total points determined the ultimate winner.
The first game on Tuesday had a vigorous start with Logan Daneluk scoring at 10:29 in the first period. He was assisted by Wyatt Anderson and Jordan Harder. Dawson Creek replied with three unanswered goals before Dallas Trim halted the blitz with a goal at 9:23 in the second period, assisted by Anderson and Kyle Leonard. Dawson Creek scored another point in the third period ending the game at 4-2, a sizeable margin given the close rivalry of the two teams.
The second game opened with Tyler Cresswell scoring the first point for the Knights of Columbus. Dallas Trim assisted. Shane Rutherford scored at 6:19 in the first period, making the score 2-0 for Fort St. John and erasing the Canucks’ two point advantage. Daneluk assisted on the goal. Dawson Creek scored at 6:04 in the first and the battle continued back and forth throughout the second period with no scoring. Even though the Flyers outshot the Canucks 36/22 they couldn’t capitalize on it or take advantage of the powerplay. The Canucks scored one in the third ending the contest 2-2 and giving the opposition the win by total points.
Congratulations to the Knights of Columbus Bantam AA Flyers on a terrific season.
