Two Fort St. John property tax review public meetings are scheduled for today, at the Quality Inn Northern Grand Hotel.
As reported last week, Property Tax Ratio Review Commissioner Doctor Stanley Hamilton is conducting the independant review. It’s stated purpose is to determine if the way the city divides total property taxes among seven property classes should be adjusted.
City Manager Diane Hunter says, one of the key issues is the business community still feels it is paying a higher precentage of the tax pie than it should… However, she says province-wide survey numbers suggest they’re better off in this city, than businesses in the majority of other BC communities…. Today’s meeting times are 1 to 3pm and 7 to 9pm and, it is hoped Doctor Hamilton will have at least an interim report, if not a final one, ready in time for city council’s first meeting in March.
