The North Peace Oscars hit the floor running in their opening game against Prince George Secondary School, this afternoon, as they downed the host Polars 91 – 81. The victory moves the Oscars into an evening semi final match with Kelly Road at 8:45 PM Pacific time.
The Roadrunners crushed the South Peace Penguins by a 94 – 39 count in the first game of the Zone Tournament at noon today.
Kyle Stevens led the way in the first half, as the Oscars played an up tempo transition game. Stevens scored a number of fast break baskets to keep the scrappy PGSS squad on their heels before picking up his fifth foul early in the final quarter. Femi Ogun, the Oscars 6′ 5 " post, dominated the boards at both ends of the floor. Ogun’s play in the paint triggered the running game.
Assistant coach Mike Brown said after the game that he was pleased with the way the team played. "Femi and Kyle were key to our game but everyone played well. Matt Stewart came in for Kyle after he fouled out and played great defense down the stretch." Ogun also fouled out late in the contest but by then the Oscars had a large enough lead that they could hold on for the important opening game win.
