Flyers take 2-0 lead in series with Lakeland

Let’s start with a wild game in McLennan, Alberta last night, which saw the senior Flyers outgunning the Lakeland Eagles, 18-6 the final.

Naturally, in a game like this, a few guys are going to have big nights, especially when the Flyers only had 9 skaters, but lets run it down, Dustin Kersey, 6 goals and 2 assists, Matt Shuya, wearing the C for the night, chipping in 2 goals and 6 assists, Kip Noble with 2 goals and 4 assists, and Ryan Bjorklund with the win, stopping 23 of 29 shots he faced. So, the Flyers take a 2-0 series lead, and will look to close things out, on home ice, tomorrow night at 8:30.

Now, all of the NPHL quarterfinals are on the same schedule here, so elsewhere last night, it was Peace River with a big win at home over Falher. It was 3-1 after one, they got 5 unanswered in the second, and 10-4 the final, Jr B goaltender Bretton Stewart with the win in goal, as the Stamps tie up that series at 1 game apiece. In High Prairie, Kelly McLeod scored two power play goals in the last 11 minutes of the third period to break a 4-4 tie and give the visiting Grande Prairie Athletics a 6-4 win, and a 2-0 stranglehold in their series, and in Hythe, the Spirit River Rangers won 9-5 over the Mustangs, taking a 2-0 lead there, so all of the series have the top seed up 2-0 except the Peace River / Falher series, which is tied 1-1.
