Peace Region Schools encouraged to adopt a country

Schools in the Peace River region are encouraged to participate in the Adopt a Country Program and connect with other schools around the world through a new website that launched as part of the one-year countdown to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.

The new Adopt a Country school-based program is a wonderful way for B.C. students to explore global citizenship by connecting with cultural organizations and schools from participating countries.

Each school in B.C. has the opportunity to adopt one of the approximately 80 countries that will participate in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Schools across the province may choose to conduct research, or to connect with students, cultural organizations and Olympic and Paralympic athletes from their adopted country through video messages, webcasts, letters or email.

The Adopt a Country Program includes an online interactive map that displays the countries participating in the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and allows schools to see which countries have already been
adopted by B.C. schools. An online guide explains the specifics of the country adoption process.

Schools can register for the program through the Sharing the Dream website

The Adopt a Country Program is part of the overarching Vancouver 2010 Education Program, components of which can be found at
