Cadets compete in Biathlon provincials

5 local Army Cadets competed at the BC Biathlon Competition last weekend in Vernon.

The members of the 2276 Rocky Mountain Rangers Army Cadets earned their spots at provincials at the Zone competition at the beginning of January.

Dustin Benterud, Vaughn Bausman, Raquel Ditchfield, Kaitlyn Paynter, and Carson Large all competed invididually on the first day of competition, completing 4 laps of 1.5 km, and shooting 3 sets of targets.

On day two, the group teamed up for the Patrol Race. This event requires teams of three, to work together, skiing and carrying kit, and assembling and shooting rifles.

A driving snowstorm didn’t make life any easier for competitors, but the local team persevered, and completed the race without help from coach Lt. Ken Lane.

Congratulations to the local athletes, competing in one of Canada’s most difficult sports.
