New CT scanner is … new

The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation has confirmed it was a brand new CT Scanner, that arrived at the Fort St. John Hospital on Monday.

As reported in late September, the city was originally slated to get a used machine, as part of a Northern Health arrangement to get Prince George, a new 320-slice device.

But, the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation’s Janice Isberg confirms plans changed, after Northern Health negotiated a deal with Toshiba, for a second scanner for the North – to be installed in Prince George.

And, while a new machine won’t have any wear and tear, Isberg says there’s also no concerns about untested software.

The hospital expects to have the new scanner up and running by early February, starting with a few patients, and gradually increasing its service.
