Denny Morrison of Fort St. John, B.C., won the men’s 1,000 metres at a World Cup speedskating event on Saturday in Kolomna, Russia.
Morrison set a track record in winning gold in a time of one minute 8.71 seconds. Stefan Groothuis of the Netherlands won silver in a time of 1:08.97. Yevgeny Lalenkov of Russia was third in 1:09.02.
