A public hearing will be held to discuss a new city plan, that will change what can be stored in commercial warehouses.
A zoning amendment bylaw has been created, following the major fire last year, at the Forumla Powell LP yard, behind Kal Tire, in the cities westend. It caused major problems and concerns, for the Fire Department, and the community, since the facility stored several different types, of hazardous chemicals.
In order to assure such chemicals are stored farther away from residential areas, the city has introduced a new zoning bylaw, that would require those types of facilities, to be located in more industrial areas. Deputy Fire Chief, Curtis Redpath says, the bylaw will also require, the disclosure of the types of materials stored in existing and future facilities.
The public hearing for the bylaw will be held Monday, January 26th, at 6pm, at City Hall.
