Plans for a nuclear powerplant in the Alberta Peace have been put on hold.
The Edmonton Journal is reporting that the company behind the plan, Bruce Power, has temporarily withdrawn its application for the plant, citing concerns about an aquifer near the first site, which was to be located on the northeast shore of Lac Cardinal, about 30 kilometres west of Peace River.
The Ontario-based company is now reportedly looking into a second site, about 30 kilometres north of town.
Bruce Power says it will complete its site evaluation, and announce its preferred site sometime in early 2009.
