Fire Chief Fred Burrows has confirmed a truck fire on Tuesday morning in Fort St. John. Chief Burrows says the incident began when the truck’s owner used his command-start to fire up his truck, parked in the Safeway parking lot on 100th St. While in a conversation, the man noticed smoke rising from the hood of his older-model Dodge Pickup. By the time he was able to shut-off his truck, the fire was already well-established. Chief Burrows says the use of the command-start system began the chain of events leading to the fire, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the auto-starter actually caused the fire. He says the damage was extensive enough, it will be hard to determine what the specific cause was.
