Denny Morrison struck gold on Monday, at the Canadian single-distance speed skating championships.

Morrison finished 2 1/2 seconds behind his Personal Best, but still 27 hundredths of a second ahead of second place finisher Kyle Parrott. Parrott just edged out Francois-Olivier Roberge for the silver, while FSJ’s Timothy Gladysz placed 20th.

The win comes on the heels of silver and bronze medals Denny won in the 5000 and 500 respectively, over the weekend.

In the women’s 1000, London, Ontario’s Christine Nesbitt won the gold, while Shannon Rempel took silver and Brittan Shussler the bronze, with Fort St. John’s Elyse Henry in 13th.

The competition continues with the men’s and women’s 1500 on Tuesday, and then the women’s 5k and men’s 10k on Wednesday.
