FSJ named Forest Capital of BC for 2009

Fort St. John has been awarded the title of Forest Capital of BC for 2009.

Each year the Association of BC Forest Professionals awards a community in BC with this title. According to the ABCFP the program is a great way for British Columbians to celebrate the economic, cultural, natural and historic contributions of our forests to community life.

In Fort St. John alone forestry employs more than 700 people and contributes over $98 million per year to the local economy. Plus, over 50 million trees have been planted in the region in the last 20 years.

The City will be planning a number of events to celebrate their Forest Capital status.
