Sally Ann Kettle Drive

The local salvation army has kicked off its annual Christmas Kettle Drive.
The Sally Anne has 7 kettles out this year, located at Wal Mart, the Totem Mall, the BC Liquor Store, Price Smart, Sobey’s, Safeway, and the Real Canadian Wholesale Club.
The group says it needs to raise 165 thousand dollars just to operate its hamper drive, but has set the lofty goal of 300 thousand.
Around 170 thousand was raised in last year’s campaign, but Kettle Co-ordinator Lindsay Jardine says the kettles have been put out two weeks earlier this year. As well, smaller change kettles will be placed at local businesses, and she’s hoping those changes will mean more cash being brought in.
Jardine says any extra money will be put towards the purchase of the Emergency Services Truck, and a new cot program at the shelter.

Jardine says the 25 cots would be set up in the lunch area of the Salvation Army, meaning more staff would be needed to supervise the area at night, and turn it over to a dining area during the day.
Extra volunteers will be needed, Jardine says the group is trying to recruit more volunteers through local churches and community groups. To volunteer your time, or for more information, call Lindsay at 793-8950.
