City Approves Tax Ratio Review

City Council has approved a motion to hire a Commissioner to review Fort St. John’s Tax Ratio.

You may Recall, last week, the Stategic Planning and Finance Committee, asked staff to prepare a report regarding the proposed appointment of a Property Tax Policy Review Commissioner, to investigate business community concerns regarding the economic impact of the Cities’ taxation policy.

Council aproved the recommendation from City Manager Diane Hunter, to hire the Independent Commissioner, using grants from the Northern Development Initiative, to cover the cost. The costs could run as high as $60,000.

It is hoped the newly elected council will have a full report from the Commissioner, by March first of next year.
