Flyers return home from Stony Plain

The Flyers are back in Fort St. John after a long bus ride home from Stony Plain.

The Flyers faced the Chinook Hockey League’s Eagles for a two-game exhibition series over the weekend, and are calling the trip a big success.

It began with the Flyers winning 6-5 in a shootout on Saturday night, and concluded with Stony Plain winning 4-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Fatigue certainly became a factor in the second game, with the Flyers having only 4 regular defensemen making the trip. A couple of times, Todd Alexander dropped back to help out on the blue line, but for the most part, the 4 D-men (Brett and Tyler Loney, Luke Middleton, and Mike Shipton) held the fort. Brett Loney was singled out for his excellent play, while Luke Middleton had a fantastic series.

The Flyers have now proven they will be able to compete with Stony Plain (should they represent Alberta in the MacKenzie Cup), and can look forward to getting stronger, as their conditioning improves, and Arlo Hadland, Bryan Lewis, and Kip Noble return to the defensive corps, and Tyler Brough and Adam Loncan jump in up front.

Forward Ryan Carter, and goalie Chad Vizzutti did join the team for the series, with Carter scoring the Flyers first goal in both games, and Vizzutti playing well in Sunday’s loss. Both are expected to join sporadically over the season, and for this year’s AAA playoff action.

After Sunday’s game, coach Adam Brash joined Jon Zacks in the booth at the Centennial Arena, to talk about how the weekend went, what he wanted to get out of it, and what the team achieved.
