October 27 Council Meeting Highlights

Here are some other decisions made at Fort St. John’s City Council meeting last night:

The city heard a delegation from Gordon Bennett and Ken Morton of the Royal Canadian Legion asking permission to carry out their Poppy and Wreath Campaign for October 28 to November 8th. They also asked permission to hold a parade on November 11th on Veteran’s Avenue. The city passed a motion allowing them to do so.

The city also heard a presentation from Lana Hanston, a Ministry Adoption Worker, asking to proclaim November Adoption Awareness Month. Mayor Eglinski read the proclamation.

Council passed a motion to draft a letter of support for the Hackney Hills Wind Farm. Colleen Brown of Aeolis Wind gave a presentation similar to the one delivered at the Oil and Gas Conference.

Council ratified a motion passed by telephone poll that the city submit a letter of support to the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development on behalf of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s application for Community Partnership Development Funding. The group plans to use the funding to provide settlement services to new immigrants in Fort St. John.
