Lots of reports of arrest in EnCana bombing; RCMP say arrest is unrelated

The RCMP are trying to clarify reports that a person has been arrested in connection to the EnCana bombings.

Some media have suggested that a man arrested Thursday in Kelly Lake Alberta was arrested in connection with the EnCana bombings investigation. Sgt. Tim Shields says the individual was arrested on five outstanding arrest warrants from BC.

The arrest was made by the RCMP’s INSET team and the warrants were for assault, breach of conditions and sexual assault. The 21 year old male was arrested and taken to the nearby Grande Prairie Detachment. RCMP members requested that Crown Counsel in BC extend the warrants to Alberta in order to allow arrests to be made in Alberta. The male is being transported to Dawson Creek where he will make a court appearance on Friday morning.

The RCMP go on to say that no new charges relating to the pipeline explosions are being laid and that the male is being held solely for the outstanding warrants. Sgt. Tim Shields also says this arrest is not being characterized by investigators as a “break” in the case.

Thursday the RCMP did announce a tip line had been set up with regards to the EnCana bombings, that number is 1-866-994-7473
