The Flyers played Williams Lake, Salmon Arm, Prince Rupert and Dawson Creek in the weekend tournament The Flyers suffered a 6-3 loss against Williams Lake in their first game on Friday night.
They were 0/2 on the power play and 2/4 on the penalty kill. Goals were scored by Jade McMullen, Blair Karasuik and Logan Daneluk. Assists by Jordan Harder, Kyle Leonard, Logan Daneluk, Brandon Akhurst. Netminder, Daimon Derioun, stopped 25 out of 31 shots. Fort St. John dropped their second game against Salmon Arm on Saturday 5-2. Flyers were 0/3 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill allowing only 3 shots on net. Jade McMullin scored both goals in this game. Assists came from Rutherford, Mohr and Harder. Goalie, Derioun, stopped 35 out of 40 shots with 16 shots in the second period.
A determined Flyers team turned it around by beating Prince Rupert in the third game with a 3-2 victory. Flyers were 0/1 on the power play and 2/2 on the penalty kill allowing only two shots on the net. Two goals were scored by Karasuik and a single by Hayden Mohr for the win. Assists from Daneluk for 2, Loewen for 2, Trim and Cresswell each got 1. Goalie, Turner Gullikson, stopped 24 out of 27 shots. Fort St. John completed the tournament on Sunday by outscoring Dawson Creek with a 3-1 win. The Flyers were 0/4 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill. Goals came from McMullen, and Rutherford (unassisted). Wyatt Anderson scored on an empty netter. Assists came from Daneluk and Karasuik. Turner Gullikson did a great job stopping 27 out of 28 shots on net. This game was characterized by a lot of hits throughout the game. This was the Flyer’s best effort, playing as a team and exhibiting a solid defence.
The weekend stats showed 0/10 on the power play and 11/13 on the penalty kill. Developing a strong power play will help the Flyers meet the challenges of the 2008-09 season. Knights of Columbus AA Bantam Flyers play Dawson Creek next Saturday at 2:30pm in the Kin arena in Dawson Creek.
