The Huskies are looking ahead to a busy and important weekend. The pups play three games, and by the end of it – they could be as high as first place overall, or as low as seventh.
It begins with a home game against the Beaverlodge Blades. The Huskies won the only meeting of the season so far between the teams, a 5-3 road win, in which Steven Fast scored the winning goal late in the third period.
Then, the Huskies begin one of three long road trips this season, starting with their first matchup of the season against the Whitecourt Wolverines. The Wolverines beat the Huskies 4-1 in the second round of the playoffs last year, and went on to lose the NWJHL championship in seven games to Peace River. Whitecourt is 4-1 so far on the season, with their only loss coming in Grande Prairie. They’ve scored 40 goals, and allowed 15 in 5 games played.
On Sunday afternoon, the Huskies move on to Slave Lake. The Wolves have played 9 games already this year, posting a 2-6-1 record. Their two wins came over the winless Sexsmith Vipers.
Coach Kalb says he expects to start Andrew Van der Merwe on Friday night, and Zach Blain on Saturday in Whitecourt.
Kalb also expects Jordan Shipton to return to the pups lineup this weekend, which would be a tremendous boost for the team.
Friday night’s home game against Beaverlodge starts at 8pm at the NPA, and you can catch Saturday and Sunday’s road games live on Moose FM – Saturday’s game starts at 7pm local, pregame at 6:45 – while Sunday’s game starts at 1pm, pregame at 12:45.
