Northern Health has issued its Request for Proposals (RFP) to two teams short-listed to design and build the new Fort St. John hospital.

Larry Blain, president of Parnerships BC, says two teams were short listed as qualified in July. They are Peace River Healthcare Solutions, and ISL Health. Blain expects the RFP period to wrap up sometime around next March, with construction to begin shortly thereafter, and an expected completion date of late 2011.

Blain explains how the RFP process works.

Blain adds investment in the project could come from any number of sources, in any number of countries.

He adds the project is on schedule, and current low interest rates should prevent the costs from going up.

Partnerships BC says law firm Heenan Blaikie has been appointed to monitor the procurement process and has found the evaluation process to date to be fair and unbiased.

The Fort St. John Hospital is set to include:
· A 55-bed acute care hospital
· A 123-bed residential care facility for seniors
· An integrated services building that will provide regional laundry
and material services, and food services to the Fort St. John
facilities.
