On Monday evening, October 6 @ approximately 9:30 pm Fort St. John Fire Department received a 911 call reporting that a person or persons may have entered the city storm sewer system at 93rd Avenue and 100th Street. Fire department responded to that location and set up to enter the storm sewer system.

Fire fighters wearing air monitoring equipment and self contained breathing apparatus and carrying a rescue air system, entered the hole and slowly made their way north under 100th street.

At approximately 94th Ave and 100th street, fire fighters encountered three males trying to find their way out. They were lead to safety where they were treated by BC Ambulance Service.

This was a very dangerous situation for these people as this was an oxygen deficient atmosphere and could have resulted in these people being asphyxiated in the sewer system.
