American Kidnappers Arrested in Dawson Creek

The mother and stepfather of a girl who disappeared in South Dakota two years ago have been arrested in
British Columbia – and the U.S. Marshals Service says arrangements are being made for the girl to return to her father in the U.S.

In a release, the Marshal’s Service says Perry and Eileen Sharp were positively identified on Monday. Perry Sharp had been sighted in Dawson Creek, B.C., and he and his wife admitted their identities when confronted, authorities said.

Shanae Marie Peterson was eight when she was to have been returned to her father, Layne Peterson of Hitchcock, S.D., on Aug. 15, 2006, after she attended summer school in Idaho. Peterson had
been granted full custody a month earlier.

The Marshal’s Service release says the Sharps, along with Shanae, fled South Dakota around Aug. 12, 2006. That month, the FBI obtained a warrant for the Sharps.

The Marshal’s Service says a tip was received through `America’s Most Wanted’ on Sept. 19 and involved a person who had worked with Perry Sharp in Dawson Creek.

The tipster said he saw a picture of Sharp on the `America’s Most Wanted’ website but that he knew Sharp as Robert `Bobby’ Evans. The tipster said Eileen Sharp – Shanae’s mother – was using the name Dorothy Evans and that Shanae Peterson’s name was Shannon Evans.
