Canada to Face Australia for Gold in Wheelchair Basketball

Canada will play Australia for the Gold medal in Men’s Wheelchair Basketball.

Canada struggled to beat the United States 69-62 after two overtimes in one of the semifinals.

Canada’s mainstay Patrick Anderson put up 33 points, 21 rebounds and six assists. His teammate Joey Johnson added 13 points. Wonowon’s Robert Hedges played over 18 minutes in the game.

The United States missed several field goals and free throws in double overtime, and these errors slowed the momentum and allowed a game-long lead to slowly slip away. Joe Chambers did best for the US team, dropping 14 points, followed by 11 points from Jeff Glasbrenner. Ten US players scored in the match, comparing to just seven from Canadian players.

Canada will face long-time rival Australia in the final on Tuesday, September 16 at 4:30am Fort St. John Time. The US team will play Great Britain (loser of the first semifinal match on Sunday) in the bronze medal game on the same day.
