The city of Fort St. John says it hopes to take advantage of cycling grants recently announced by the Premier.
The new funding program, called Bike BC, will dedicate $31-million to improve cycling infrastructure across the province.
The program comes on the heels of the city’s construction of biking and walking trails under the Localmotion Program.
City Manager Dianne Hunter says the city is planning on making an application for the funding. It’s not clear yet whether the funding can be used to improve the existing trails, or if the city will have to initiate new projects.
Pat Ferris, owner of Ferris Fast Cycles in Fort St. John, says the city’s cycling trails haved proved so far to be a wise investment for the local area.

Ferris says the majority of trails developed around the city have been recreational, but he expects the new funding to support trails for residents looking to commute by bike.
