It looks like Fort St. John’s Fire Hall has found a new home.
This morning on Moose FM’s Issues and Answers, Mayor Jim Eglinski confirmed that the city had purchased the vacant land behind Sobeys on 93rd Avenue for construction of the new Fire Hall. Eglinski says he’s happy with the new location, despite it not being as centrally located as the current Fire Hall. Earlier this year, city and fire officials began looking at the property, which was in negotiation for sale to another party. After those negotiations fell through, the city moved in with their purchase offer, which they say is slightly below market value.
At a September 8th council meeting, council voted in favour of allocating $1,300,000.00 to purchase the land. The actual purchase price of the land has not yet been confirmed. Council decided to allocate the funds after determining that none of the land currently owned by the city was appropriate for the new Fire Hall.
