Police release name of man killed in explosion

Police have released the name of a man killed last Friday at a wellsite near Pouce Coupe.

Mario Niles, 32, of Fox Creek, was cleaning a holding tank at the site at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Friday when an explosion occurred.

Niles was airlifted to Edmonton, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Two other men working with Niles at the time of the explosion were sent to Dawson Creek Hospital but were later released.

The wellsite where the accident occurred was owned by EnCana. The three men were contractors, not employees of the company.

RCMP, Work Safe BC and the Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the matter.
