EnCana Well Site exploded near Dawson Creek on Friday

One man is dead following a well site explosion near Pouce Coupe.

As we first told you on Saturday, the explosion took place on Friday, with two men being sent to the Dawson Creek hospital and the other airlifted to an Edmonton Hospital. The person sent to Edmonton died shortly after arriving.

The well site is owned and operated by EnCana Corp, but the workers were contractors and not company employees.

The three were cleaning out a tank with hoses when the blast happened. The cause of the explosion has yet to be identified. The company is extending it’s condolences to the family of the dead employee. Grief counsellors are at the site assisting other employees.

By the time the Dawson Creek Fire Department arrived, the BC Ambulance Service had everything under control.
