FSJ to Reinitiate Discussion About UNBC Standalone Campus

The City of Fort St. John has decided to reinitiate discussion with UNBC about the possibility of a standalone campus in the city.

The discussion echoes one held in 2005, which saw the city work towards setting aside land for the new campus. However, a change in leadership at UNBC meant that the campus ceased to be a priority for the university, and the city dedicated the apportioned land as green space. City Council put forward a motion at a September 8th meeting to reaffirm the city’s commitment to the campus and to create a dialogue, including looking for another appropriate location in the city for the campus.

Councillor Lori Ackerman says it’s important that the city indicate its willingness to set aside land for advanced education, as the number of undeveloped sites in Fort St. John continues to dwindle.
