Real estate prices are going up — at the local cemetery.
The city has passed an amendment to the Cemetery Regulation and Maintenance bylaw which will see columbarium interments go up from $80 to $100 dollars. Care Fund costs will also be going up from $60 to $80 dollars. The city says the price adjustments are an attempt to keep prices closer to the benchmark average in the province.
Dianne Hunter, city manager, says a $100 non-resident charge will also be implemented in order to dissuade residents of other cities from taking advantage of the lower prices here in Fort St. John. [asset|aid=238|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=Dianne Hunter – Columbarium_1_Pub.mp3]
The price adjustment comes at the same time as the installation of a new columbarium at Woodlawn cemetery, where the existing columbarium is approximately 75% full.
