The Sunday night death of a cyclist, which reports now indicate occurred near Hythe on Highway 59, remains under police investigation.
The latest information from the RCMP says it was a leisurely bike ride for two people, not far from their rural home near Hythe, which turned tragic when they were hit from behind by a semi-trailer unit.
The 53 year old husband was killed and his 53 year old wife, now in hospital in Grande Prairie, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The truck didn’t stop, but an investigating officer says it is possible the trucker didn’t even know the cyclists had been hit, since the accident occurred after dark at about 8:15.
The Beaverlodge RCMP is taking public information assistance calls at 780-354-2485.
