The Vice-President of Media Union BC has now confirmed that staff of the Alaska Highway News voted in favour of a strike at a meeting on Thursday.
John Savage states that Thursday night’s vote “overwhelmingly” supported strike action, as did votes at every location owned by Glacier Newspapers.
The company’s assets include the Prince George Citizen, the Northerner, the Dawson Creek Daily News, the Northern Horizon, the Mirror and of course the Alaska Highway News.
The vote means that all of the papers could be in strike pending 72 hours’ notice. The vote is valid for 90 days.
Savage says that Glacier Newspapers has been in touch with the union, and that new dates have been set for negotiations later this month.
