Although demolition on the Fort Hotel hasn’t commenced as planned, city officials say progress is still being made.

In April, the city declared the hotel a nuisance property and asked the owner, Micheal Seo, to have plans drafted for its demolition.

Documents submitted to the city in July suggested demolition would begin on the historic hotel in mid-August with completion in mid-September.

Director of Facilities and Protective Services Jim Rogers says despite the delays, the owner has hired a local engineer who is currently working on a plan to safely demolish the building.

Rogers says that demolition is a complex matter and that many factors, including public safety and hazardous materials removal.
