NLC Awarded Funds for Aboriginal Special Projects

Aboriginal students at Northern Lights College can soon look forward to new culturally specific programs, thanks to an additional $200,000 in funding from the provincial Aboriginal Special Projects Fund.

Two new programs will be offered as a result of the funding.

The Capacity Building and Cultural Education Support program will use classroom and online courses to enhance learners’ communication and negotiation skills in Tlingit language.

The Renewing the Spirit program will incorporate Aboriginal leaders into the teaching process, using a holistic approach to provide guidance and mentorship to promote self-confidence.

Cyndy Lorincz, Registrar and Dean of Learner Support Services for Northern Lights College, says the college is excited to receive the funding.

Overall, Aboriginal programs in BC received nearly $3,000,000 this year from the Aboriginal Special Projects Fund.
