Fox Creek Mill destroyed by Fire

The Millar Western sawmill/planer in Fox Creek has been destroyed by fire.

The extent of the damage is still not known, even though the fire started on Friday. At the height of the fire, nearly 40 firefighters were battling the blaze with 11 fire trucks. There were also 3 water bombers used to help prevent the plants log pile from spreading.

A Thunderstorm, Friday night did help to slow the flames and fire crews were able to get the fire under control after only about 5 hours on the fire.

The fire has left 60 people without a job and an uncertain future. According to Millar Western the facility is covered by insurance. A total damage estimate won’t be known for several days.

The cause still remains unknown, but some believe it may have been an electrical problem.

As for rebuilding the mill, no decision has been made by the company.
