Deadly Weekend on Alberta Roads

The Long weekend has been a deadly one on Alberta Highways.

Up until early Monday, 5 crashes had killed 6 people, including a crash near Peace River.

A Peace region man in his early 20s rolled his 2008 GMC Canyon pickup truck in a ditch along Highway 737 in a rural area southwest of the Peace River on Saturday. He was ejected and died at the scene.

The truck and driver were not found for approximately three to five hours until 7:40 a.m., when a passing motorist came across the scene. Staff Sgt. John Haney of the Peace River RCMP detachment said the gravel road is not well travelled.

Police believe speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash.
