A Clearwater, BC resident will now be facing first-degree murder charges in the death of his mother.
Parker Matthias, 51, had originally been charged with manslaughter. The new charge is the result of further investigation of a house fire which resulted in the hospitalization and eventual death of Kathleen Jennings, 79.
When police responded to the August 1st fire, they found Jennings covered in gasoline and suffering second and third degree burns to approximately 50 percent of her body.
A date for preliminary inquiry into the matter will be set September 5th.
