Public health officials say the confirmed death toll from the listeriosis outbreak is six — all in Ontario. Another six Canadians who died, including one on Vancouver Island, had the bacteria and, tests continue to determine if listeriosis was their cause of death. In all, there are now 26 confirmed cases and, 29 suspected ones. The latest confirmed case in BC is in Cranbrook and, the victim is a woman who had an underlying health condition and, is believed to have contracted the disease from hospital food… In addition, officials expect more cases in the weeks ahead, because listeriosis has an average incubation period of three weeks.
