The latest report yesterday afternoon on the wildfire northeast of Fort St. John near the Osborne River put the size at 340 hectares.
That followed a morning report of 200 hectares but the Prince George Fire Centre says that was only an estimate and the new figure does not represent significant growth.
In fact, spokespersonJillian Chimko stated that 80 fire fighters assisted by 4 helicopters and 5 pieces of heavy equipment have succeeded in reducing the spread rate. In addition, with some help from the changing weather, at last word the fire was moving into a previously burnt area.
Jillian has also clarified earlier reports on the origin of the 3 ground crews fighting the blaze. Two are from Fort St. John and Vanderhoof in the Prince George Fire Centre and the other from the Northwest Centre.
The lightning-started fire is not threatening any commercial or residential property but has been responsible for a lot of smoke in the Fort St. John area. Fortunately, authorities say it does not represent any health danger.
